Hi....I am hoping that some-one who knows about the Reeves' can help me find out more about this family!
George Harmon(d) Reeves was born c. 1850.....but apparently, according to family legend, the black sheep of the family. He was a landscape artist and we have examples of his work to confirm this.....he is shown in the census' sometimes as an artist, but at other times as a carpenter.
I have discovered that he was also a bigamist....marrying Sarah Budding in 1868 in Bristol......and then (with Sarah still living in Bristol), Martha Clarke in 1876 in Leicester (with whom he had lots of children). I have both marriage certificates - in each he claims to be a bachelor, or full age, and gives his father as (another) George Harmon Reeves. He also, on both says his father was a 'customs officer'....but I cannot find this George Reeves on a census, with certainty.
There is a George Reeves (21)(a Mason) & wife Emma (22), both born in Bath, with son George 11 months on the 1851 census......but I don't know if this is them!
In 1861, I think George (11)(Junior) is with his mother, Emma, now a widow, and a sister, Emma (9).....but Mother, Emma is shown as 45???
Sorry this is soooo long......but help would be appreciated!
(I have just applied for a possible birth cert. for a George Reeves (in 1850) - but not sure if this will help! |
